SUPPORTING LITERACY AND COMMUNITY
Building Project
For nearly forty years, the Dandridge Memorial Library has served our community from the 3,800-square-foot Burchfield Building located at Circle Drive. During that time, our town has grown and the needs of our residents have grown as well.

Today, we are excited to begin the next chapter.

Thanks to $3,000,000 in grants, donations, and municipal funding, construction will soon begin on a new 9,000-square-foot library designed to better serve Jefferson County residents for generations to come.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why does Dandridge need a bigger library?
The current 3,800-sq-ft building, built in 1986, was designed for a much smaller community. Since then, Dandridge’s population has more than doubled, and the library no longer meets state standards or community demand for books, programs, technology access, and meeting space.
Why not expand or renovate the existing library?
Although some renovations have been made, the building is already at maximum capacity. There is no room to expand on the current property, and acquiring adjacent land is not an option.
How big will the new library be?
Plans call for a 9,250-sq-ft facility, more than double the current size, allowing expanded services, modern technology, and flexible community spaces.
Where will the new library be located?
1135 Academy Circle, Dandridge, TN — the vacant lot at the corner of Academy Circle, Banner Street, and Highway 92, next to the Maury School Lofts.

What benefits will the community gain?
• 1,500-sq-ft public meeting room for events
• Dedicated children’s program room
• Teen area and learning lab for homeschool and makerspace activities
• Computer lab with private stations
• Local history room
• Covered and uncovered outdoor patios overlooking downtown
• Improved parking and accessibility
How much will the new library cost?
Current projections estimate the total project cost at $4.2 million, including construction, furnishings, and landscaping.
Why is the project so expensive?
• New public buildings must meet current building codes and ADA accessibility requirements
• Construction costs for materials and labor have increased significantly
• Delaying construction would likely result in even higher costs
Who is paying for the new library?
The project currently has $3,000,000 committed from:
• Tennessee Dept. of Economic & Community Development – $1,800,000
• Town of Dandridge – $800,000
• Tennessee State Library & Archives – $200,000
• Dandridge Memorial Library, Inc. – $200,000
Additional funding will come from grants and private donations.

Will my taxes increase?
The Town of Dandridge’s contribution comes from existing fund balance (savings). Future operating costs will be shared by Jefferson County and the Town of Dandridge, each of which sets tax rates annually during the budget process.
When will construction begin?
Groundbreaking is expected in April 2026.
When will the new library open?
A grand opening is planned for May 2027.
Will the library close during construction?
Yes. The library will close for approximately one month to move collections into the new building.
What will happen to the current library building?
Future use of the building will be determined by the Town of Dandridge.
